Bell, I did a portrait of jazz bass player Charlie Hayden a number of years ago where I left at least 40% of the painting unpainted. That piece is my inspiration for my June portrait show. People sure do love the sketch you did of me doing what I like to do best! Thanks again.

Marvelous! I like your loose brushwork - the painterly quality comes through loud and clear.
I love all three of these! Colours are wonderful and I love how you leave some of the background coming thru! Very sensitive!
I love the way you left out color on parts of the portrait, yet they seem complete.
wonderfully captured colorful personalities :)
Anne, Thank you. My intention with this portrait show is to highlight color, shapes, values, pencil line, and unfinished areas.

Very fun and lively! I like the perfect examples of how the human eye will fill in the parts that are left unsaid.
Good luck with your show.
Well put, Tonya! I like your work.
Thanks Barbara. Next week, I start taking photographs of some friends for more potential portrait references.
