This is a watercolor of the Calif. state capitol in the morning light. The sky was "painted with little atomizer bottles of red, yellow and blue with these three colors mixing on the paper (140lb. cold press watercolor paper). The foreground foliage was painted very wet on dry with the colors blending while I held the paper in a vertical position. When all was dry, watercolor and whitl opaque paints were splattered and flung on top.

Sunrise Over The Capitol

Love the foreground! An interesting idea to "spray" and squirt the sky area. Can't wait to try it myself.

I agreee wit Barbara..its a cheerful painting.My first reaction was "Wow"! You have created a very interesting mixing of colors but with each one maintaining its own identity!Love this painting.
What an explosion of color!! I love the looseness of this painting. I really admire this since I do not paint like this but wish I could :)

We just had Tom Lynch here with us in Portland for 3 days at the Oregon Society of Artists. I'm very familiar now with those little spray bottles - I am "One with those little spray bottles.
He says be sure to spray clean water through them when you fisnish for the day because they will plug up after a while.

David,the foreground has become really fantastic...it reminds me an Indian festival HOLI,which is celebrated with sprinkling colors...
Nice contrast of the architecture in the background and the joyous splashing of color in the foreground.
You have so many styles and seem to master every medium you use.

Comrade Bonnie. This was a particularly satisfying water color. Ahh, if only every painting could be like this. Well...maybe not... that would make my creative life boring.
Ohhhhh - very beautiful! I LOVE the abstractness of the foreground compared to the realism of the building in the background... and the colors are "gorgeous" ... very effective!
