California Notrh Coastal Beach

This is a half sheet watercolor painting I did last week from a photo reference that one of my students emailed to me. I love cloudy beach scenes and painting them as simply as possible. There is a Canadian artist in BC by the name of Clive Powsey that does a brilliant job water coloring scenes like this. He's on my blog roll.

UFO or simply a landmark?...David's blog readers want to know.

It's got a pole on top with an American flag, and it seems to be anchored to the ground with what looks like steel girders. I say it's a Sacramento landmark off Interstate 5 as you enter the city from the south. I'm sure of this. Now you know.

I'm sooo happy!

Here's another acrylic rooster study painted with brush and a touch of palette knife. Now to something more important... my new cell phone had a library of ring tones of which none even came close to audible satisfaction. With said phone, I down loaded a rooster ring tone... I'm sooo happy!... why?... well...here's why... about a year ago at this time I was out in the country side west of Sacramento water coloring a barn with the sound of rooster crowing wafting through the air... does rooster crowing waft?...anyway, the three watercolors I painted all came out great, and later, soon thereafter, I sold them!...income...bills paid! So now I associate rooster crowing with successful plein air painting, money making, and bill paying. Crow roosters, crow!!

Decapitated Head and Rose In Bud Vase Redux

The decapitated head that lead to my incarceration two posts ago was identified by the county coroner as the head of Mike di Lodovico Buonarotti Simoni ( aka: Michaelangelo). After receiving that bit of info., I decided to paint in his famous "David" as well as a close up of Dave's head. This second "Rose In Bud Vase" acrylic was painted yesterday in my Sunday acrylic painting workshop. The idea was to minimize the number of brush strokes used to paint the image. I'm still trying to perfect this idea. There was a guy I recollect that really, really knew how to do this well. His name was John Sargent. He painted a lot of rich hob nobs in his time, and therefor was not considered a happening artist like Mike.

Yeeha!...Brooster the rooster rides again! Viva Brooster!!

Next Wednesday, I am conducting a workshop that I call "Tour De Cluck". The participants will be painting chickens in watercolor, acrylic, and oil. They have the opportunity to donate a completed piece to an event called the "Tour De Cluck" that will be held in Sacramento's neighboring town of Davis. The art will be auctioned off to raise money for a group in town that promotes locally grown food in school cafeterias! A bicycle tour of the town's urban chicken coops is offered as well! I will be demonstrating chicken paintings in both watercolor and acrylic. These two were painted within the past two days, in order to limber up for the workshop. I've named this rooster Senoir Brooster, and I painted both of these whilst listening to "The Best of Flaco Jimenez". Senior Flaco is a master of Conjunto Norteno accordion.
