Jim Lehr re-do or is it redux?

The PBS newscaster Jim Lehr that I painted a portrait of and posted a few posts ago, I really like. Honest to goodness I do. I mean it. Swear on a stack of telephone books (are there still telephone books around?)... however...I thought I'd take a crack at another portrait of him with a different composition, but more importantly, with warmer, more saturated color and with the paint brushed on thicker and more layered. Ipso facto and la de dah, herewith is the result!

Another great job, David. I love the color pieces and perfect brush strokes.

Autumn, I'm glad you like the color "pieces". I think they add energy to my portraits.

Kay Reynolds, Well thanks for taking the time out in your schedule for exploring my humble blog! We all need to motivate each other.

I do like the earlier one, it seems more loose.

Love this one! I must have been out of town when you posted the last Lehr portrait so can't compare them. I always thought Jim Lehr had so little personal color so you have made him looking better than life! I hope he gets to see it.

Hi good Gallery Concord buddy, Myrna! He saw it (the director of our local PBS station emailed him a photo file of my painting) and he his response was "even though the painting is of me, I'm embarrassed to say that I really like it". People can say some strange things things about portraits of themselves.

I think you are right, Geert-Jan.
