My Holiday Acrylic Workshop

I found a winter snow scene photo posted on Flickr and could not resist doing an acrylic interpretation of it. I took away the aspens and added Sierra pines and a sunset sky. The first session of my two-session workshop starts this Saturday. We will practice painting the trees, snow, sky, water reflections and do a small study. Then on Dec. 5, we'll paint a full 14"X18" painting. Compare this acrylic with the same scene I posted a few weeks ago that I painted in watercolor. Which one do you like best?

It's hard to say which one I like best. Both have a similar feel. That watercolorist in you shows in the acrylic. Yet, I know how the subtle color changes drop out of an image when prepared for the web. Also, none if this may matter anyway.

Sounds like you have a plan for the workshop. I like to teach the same way where I first show them how to paint each piece of the painting. I do like both of your paintings. I am teaching a workshop on the 5th of Dec., too. I will be thinking about you....

Try out fluid acrylics instead of tube ones next time for the same pix. I do like the acrylic one a little bit more...has a strong sense of being there for me. BEAUTIFULLY done, both of them. Lucky workshopppers.

Davida (lifeartist), yes, the acrylic does have a little of the watercolorist effect in it. I'll have to slap on some thick paint. Well...maybe I'll leave it well enough alone.

Kathy and David's h2o stars align on the 21st!

Sandy, you read my mind! I haven't touched fluid acrylics in a month of Sundays but was thinking about using it on this one!

Dear David,
I like both of them. The watercolor somehow attracts me more. Very well done and thank you for sharing these lovely works with us.

Hi David,

I like both of them and I'm dazzled by your skill, but this one has a slightly deeper feeling to it.

You are a genius.

Take care,

Barbara

Vinayak, Thank you so much for your kind comment.

Anon., I think that my acrylic is a bit bolder in color. What I need to do is paint the scene again in watercolor but just as boldly as the acrylic one!

I agree, barbara, and as I wrote to Anonymous, I should do it again in h2o with the brighter sky colors.

Prabha, Thanks, and you are absolutely correct with the idea that both mediums have their own charms.
