Some Stuff in Progress

I lied...the acrylic sunflowers are completed. They were painted on a stretched canvass that had long ago been covered with a rough textured, thick acrylic moulding paste. The paint could not be applied in anything coming close to smooth buttery strokes. And that's a good thang (spelling here on purpose to be cute)! I got a beautiful sun lighted, sparkly feeling here. As for the two long acrylic landscapes on stretched canvass...they have been languishing in my studio for over 8 months now, and I am FINALLY bringing them to completion and off to one of my local galleries...feels good! One is of the Port of Sacramento with an early morning rowing crew going by and the other is sundown on a Sacramento Delta ranch.

So you are working in one of the "other" mediums. LOL. The texture is something we just can't achieve in wc. Very impressive. Wish you lived closer so that I could pick your brain. I bet you are a great teacher!!

You've been busy David!
These all very engaging. Hard to pic a favourite from these, probably the rowers grabs me the most. I like the big industry of the wharf juxtaposed with the gentle figurative motif of the rowers.

Great landscapes David. I enjoy seeing how you shift directions and sizes of your brushstrokes to create flat water, moving water, grasses of different sizes and distances.
You've done well here with these.

These are all really nice, David. You are a school teacher who can actually paint. Lucky students (but I expect they don't appreciate what they have).

Kathy: Sorry!...You caught me!...I am working in one of the OTHER mediums. Watercolor is my first by about 40 Years. I only have about 6 with acrylic, but if you can do well in one medium, you certainly can do well in a few others. I just ordered my first Plein air easel/tripod watercolor kit. I can hardly wait to go back to the ranch and try it out!!

Yeah, David, it's a cool juxtaposition.

Comrade Bonnie! There is a lot to work at with painting, and indeed, brush work can be so very important. Last night I was working on an acrylic where I used long, sweeping brush strokes for the road, and it just did not work for me. I switched to shorter strokes with a few cross strokes...mo better! I think I'll post that painting in the near future.

Onpainting: Yep, I'm a school teacher that can paint. I demo all the time in my classroom, so those students who do not have their heads up their asses, do appreciate that fact!

Lazy Milind (LOL): I thought I read those words previously! I'm going to check out what you have painted so far on our Turban Man paint off, and I'll post mine to date. We are also going to see David Burge's and Myrna Wacknov's.
