He's hog wild...oink, oink.

On Oct. 8, I started another portrait of my brother Billy Joe Bob Lobenberg as a demo. for a local art club here in Sactown (Sacramento). This good ole boy from Turlock sure ain't no high falooten city boy...he was born at a party in a barn, and that ain't no lie! So my challenge was to capture the raw essence of the man. Acrylic on canvas.

Great Image! Energetic brush work and lots of attitude. I think sometimes demos produce some of the best work because one doesn't have time to fuss over it. Regarding this being your "brother"...do you remember that old cowboy song that goes "how can I believe you when I know you've been a liar....."?

Are the lyrics you just delineated similar in thought to Peter crying "wolf!"?
Kudos coming from you are particularly satisfying.

If I may interfere in the mighty teachers conversation...

"So my challenge was to capture the raw essence of the man" - and raw he is. I can hear his Harley Davidson roaring in the background.

There's sometin' about them rusty colors that you chose to portray him, that adds to his rawness. That's one tough dude - but I can't help wondering if he has a "mom" tattoo on his forearm.

Thanks for stopping by my blog David! I too haven't visited yours in a while and I've missed a lot.

Tis painting of your brother is great! The undone edges reinforce the personality you've captured. It was also interesting to see this painting's progress and read about the palette you used.

Your last posted portrait wears a turban and mine wears a cowboy hat and both have beards. You are a wonderful portrait artist, and I appreciate your comments on this one.

Nava: How did you know about the tattoo?! Please don't mentioned it to anyone else!

Thanks Kim. How about you painting a carved pumpkin next?

Does he know you are supposed to pay him or do you just provide the beer?
