Meow.
Ooops...I mean Woof! Woof! 11"X14" acrylic on stretched canvas. This was a commission. I paint human and animal portraits on this size canvas for $385 from a photo of the subject. This guy's snout was a kick (not easy) to paint!
Peggy, Yes, the expression was great as well as the lighting. Of course I painted this from a photo, and I think the photo was taken towards the end of the day when the light has that warm glow to it.
Love the amazing colors that you "find" in a basically tan animal. Gives him life and harmony. The folds in his snout are what makes him so unique to his breed. You show them beautifully. He shows as one proud animal and this is surely a treasure for the owner.
I wish I could show this blog post to Karl but it would ruin the Xmas surprise (I don't do well with delaying gratification!). I am crazy happy with the painting of Bogus and I am positive my husband will have a great Xmas this year. Thanks David, for a masterpiece!
i have gone through your whole blog. your sense of humor is hysterical. your painting is amazing. please don't stop the watercolors. they are so inspiring to me.

You make it look easy, though. What an expressive painting. I bet they loved it, too.

Thank you so much, Sandy. They love it, but the sad thing is that the dog died recently from cancer at only 3 years of age.

ReplyDeleteCeleste, Fussy is bad. I always paint the big picture first, then refine, then determine when to stop and not get fussy.
