California State Capitol Building

Here is where the shit happens. Our legislature and governor pass laws to increase state spending, lower car registration fees, double the unemployment insurance pay out rate etc.etc. without the least concern that sometimes shit happens (like a severe recession/depression) Surprise!!!... not enough money in the coffers...the state ain't got enough bread for shit! In fact, the state is in deep doo doo (i.e. shit). Silver lining? The capitol bldg. looks real purty in the soft morning light.

  1. Do they make it purty like that to razzle-dazzle us?

It's a lovely painting, David, and I really enjoyed seeing the progress pictures. Thanks for sharing.

  3. You made the capitol look real nice. You should sell the painting an donate the proceeds to the state. Also you can help the budget by having a class size of 250. I recommend having them draw with pencil only - oil painting in a class of that many students will get messy.

  4. We mustn't let the razzle dazzle fool us, Elizabeth. We now know and actually always have know that they, like us, can be real f--k ups. Gladua like the progress shots.

  6. It ain't "real nice", Onpainting. It's "purdy". I teach at the community college level. We are being impacted by fee hikes and class reductions on the 4 yr. college level. Therefor, more students are now going to community colleges. Community colleges are now getting way, way less money from our bankrupted (did I just make up a word here?) state, so they now community colleges need to raise their fees and reduce classes! College is overrated! Students need to learn things like auto repair and leaf blowing! Or... let em eat cake!

  7. Hi David,

Trust a painter to find the beautiful in a bad situation. Gorgeous painting of the capital building.
    Great progression.

    Take care,

    Barbara

  10. Thanks Mike and Meera. I now go back to painting and crying in my beer. I drink Miller. It's the most inexpensive beer on the market. Years and years ago, I enjoyed one of the most unique beers in the world, Dos Equis, from Mexico. But about twenty, or even more years ago, they changed it to taste like every other mass produced American beer. I'm starting to cry again.
