  1. Hi David,

So this is the next promised challenge.

It's fascinating to see how you progress. So far it looks great.

    Is this acrylic? Terrific.

    Take care,

    Barbara

  2. Cool David. there are so many options for a focal point in the reference photo, I wondered what you'd pick out. The "light coming through from the back casting shadows on the ground plane"-ness is pretty sweet~

  3. A really good subject and you are doing very well with it so far. Try not to screw it up.

  4. Terry: I have always liked what you write about the "star" of the painting. Light/bike/cast shadow is my star. Thanks Terry. Love your blog!

  5. Hey David,

Looking good! Lately I've been wanting to use a bike as a prop in a painting too.

  10. Barbara: I think I forgot to respond to your comment! Yes. my painting is in acrylic. I can make so many changes when I do a painting, that I need fast drying acrylic...and...I like painting with it!

  11. Barbara Pask: Thanks. I am trying to emphasize the light coming through the store banner and lighting up the area where the bike is parked. This painting is a challenge, but aren't most that way?

  12. David- I really admire how you pared this down to pure composition in it's early phases and unified the scattering of trash in the background to allow the bike to be your focal point.

    Wonderful work.

And so interesting to see how you all interpret as you and Terry did on the truck.

  13. Bonnie: This photo is a tough one to figure out...so much stuff. I like all the stuff, but I also want to get the feeling of raking light and back lighting...we shall see if I succeed. I have a sneaking suspicion that we are going to see some interesting interpretations.

  15. Leslie: I knock on the wood of my canvas frame that I keep that feeling of light and color. I'll be posting my finish soon. Sure do love your passing pedestrians painting.
